PLUM PICK- May 29, 2009

....IS JENNIFER(A.K.A. sillypea)

I have alway been very impressed with the way Jennifer concentrates on the story in her layouts.  It is very much about the words and photos, which is why we do this great hobby anyway.  To tell our stories.  And Jennifer is a great storyteller.  So I won't waste a lot of time talking, but let you hear a little bit about her and see some great work!

First, tell us a little bit about yourself:

I'm a totally type 'A' person who finds a life balance in the creativity of this hobby. I telecommute from home with my accounting job which I find totally monotonous most days.  I have a family that keeps me busy in what I consider my second full time job, myself and 3 boys, (I include my husband in that number - he's the biggest kid I have and the hardest to raise Smiley emoticon) I scrap in every spare moment in between my two roles to keep my sanity.  I've been scrappin' for almost 15 years - started back in the CM days before there were other stores and options if you can believe it. Still have many of those first pages with shaped photos and 'sticker sneezes' - ha!

Would you say that you are a "storyteller" on your layouts?
I would definitely say that I am a "storyteller" on my layouts. To me, the story and the message are by far the most important part of this craft.  Because of that, you will rarely see projects without journaling and multiple pictures in my collection. That's what it is all about to me.

How would you describe your scrapbooking style?
I would describe my style as clean lined & classic yet playful. My type 'A' nature fights anything really messy or heavily dimensional, although I try to be open minded.

Do you have a go-to color palette in your layouts? Is it your favorite colors?
I don't really have a go-to color palette per se, but I always lean toward brighter colors and/or jewel tones and my stash of greens & blues seem to go the fastest, but I attribute that mostly to having a houseful of boys.

What are three items that you couldn't do without when it comes to scrapbooking?
Three items I couldn't do without... my 3M adhesive gun, my zero center ruler with marking holes & my black dual tipped Zig pen.  (although I must admit I cringe to think of doing without most all of my stash!)

Who are your favorite manufacturers?  Why?
I can't really say that I have any favorite manufacturers. My stash is heavily diversified and I think they all have strengths and weaknesses. It would be easier to say who I tend to use the least and that would be heavily distressed or bold patterns (sorry Basic Grey, We R Memory Keepers & Tinkering Ink - you aren't usually my 'thing')

I take photographs mostly of....
I take photographs mostly of my family. My boys are my world, although I find plenty of personal girly time and that is fairly represented in my albums.

Is your scraproom/space organized or unorganized?
My scrap space is very organized, but often messy - part of the process.  My accountant side needs everything in it's place and a home for everything.  I've organized and reorganized numerous times and have finally found a system that works for me that I've stuck with for a few years now. (I can give you a picture of my scrap space if you need it.)

Do you have any certain scrapbooking goals? If so, what are they?
My only scrapbooking goals are to have fun, enjoy the process and document life. After I'm gone, my boys will know about me and know how much I loved them.

Has your scrapbooking influenced your kids to be creative in any way.  If so, how?
My kids are creative in their own ways, but nothing supremely crafty. My scrapbooking has influenced them in their approach to school projects on occasion, but otherwise they just think 'mommy creates pretty books'. Smiley emoticon

Do you have a favorite quote about creativity?
My favorite quote about creativity is also one of my favorite quotes about life and I have it posted in my scrap room: "Once you figure out who you are, turn up the volume!"  I have my own style and I'm not ashamed of it!
I love that quote, Jennifer.  And it was so nice to learn a little bit more about you.  You really do inspire so many here on Vintage Plum and we are very lucky to have you here!  So without further ado, here are some great projects that Jennifer has made with the kits from Vintage Plum.

AWESOME pick! Jennifer, I've been admiring your layouts in the gallery for a while now and agree completely that you're a storyteller. You do a fantastic job with that and it is something I want to get better at. I love your style and am drawn to  your clean/graphic designs.
